Gwinnett County School Cafeteria gets a mural — Six days in March of 2008
Six days. Five artists. Paints, ladders, brushes, sponges…

2000 square feet of cinderblock wall in a school cafeteria.
Top picture shows the main area where a pull out stage allows for programs. A ramp is behind what was a cinderblock wall, now is a stacked stone wall with a bit of moss.

My contribution? Lots & LOTS of stone wall!!! I began with this area of tumbled down wall. Rhonda added the beautiful trailing flowers & greenery. Moving to the area around the water fountains — more stone wall, Kim added the school mascot, a meerkat, peering over the stone wall into the water fountain. The center pic below is the wall before the moss & meerkats were added.

Isn’t he cute?

A meerkat family perched on the wall.

Just around the corner from the school is Union Grove Baptist Church, in Auburn, GA. This is a local historical spot that is incorporated into the mural.

For perspective, a wider shot of the side wall; church is to the left.

A closer view of the scene between the windows.

This beautiful spot was painted by Kim Chambers & is her grandmother’s Kentucky home! While not specifically a landmark from around this school, this growing but still rural area of the county still has picturesque scenes such as this.

Opposite wall has another beautiful lake.
